Batavia teenager found not guilty in stabbing of teammate

Antwan Odom had been charged with assault and weapon possession for the stabbing of his football and basketball teammate just over a year ago.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — After more than a day of deliberating, a Genesee County jury reached a not guilty verdict Friday morning in the case of a Batavia teenager accused of stabbing a teammate.

There were a lot of hugs outside the courtroom Friday for Antwan Odom, who had been charged with assault and weapon possession for the stabbing of his football and basketball teammate Ray Leach just over a year ago.

"I feel like I've been walking through the dark alone. I feel like I had nobody here, but they've been here. It's hard," Odom said.

Odom's attorneys argued Leach was the one who started the fight between the two, that he knocked Odom out, and that he was the one who should have faced charges.

The district attorney argued that they both were willing participants in the fight, and Odom escalated things with the knife, but he wasn't able to convince the jury.
