BUFFALO, N.Y. — The arctic air moves in tonight with lake effect snow developing by later this evening.
A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.
The warning is in effect for northern Erie and Genesee counties from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Friday.
Once again downtown and the airport will miss out on most of the snow, although 3 to 6 inches will be possible.
Those living north of the city won't see much at all, just some stray snow showers from time to time and minimal to no accumulation. 10 to 18 inches of snow is possible under the most persistent bands south of the city, including West Seneca, Lackawanna and Elma.
Most of this snow is expected to fall during Thursday.
The warning will be in effect for southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties until 1 p.m. Friday.
There will be heavy snow at times with snow accumulations from 18 to 30 inches, mainly for parts of the Southtowns. This includes cities such as Springville, Eden, Evans, Hamburg, East Aurora, Orchard Park, Boston.
Also extending towards the 90 corridor in Chautauqua County, including areas around Silver Creek and Dunkirk. Again most of this snow falls Thursday into Thursday night.
There is a Weather Impact Alert for Thursday for the Southtowns and parts of the Southern Tier.
The combo of heavy snow and gusty winds will make travel near impossible at times within these bands.
Drier air and warmer air aloft will shut down the lake machine Friday with little additional accumulation south. Highs will still only be in the 20s.
We do climb back well into the 30s Saturday and near and into the 40s Sunday with some spotty rain. We'll continue to thaw out into early next week.
Storm Team 2 will continue to keep this story updated.
