Tonawanda factory partially shut down after widespread system outages

The company still has some work that can be done, so the plant is operating with one shift.

Sumitomo Rubber USA has shut down much of its operations after problems with its computer systems on March 6.

The two-million square-foot tire factory employs 1,200 hourly and 400 salaried workers, many of whom were asked to stay home this week while the company tries to figure out what happened.

“We don’t know what happened. Our systems went down in part, but because we have so much at stake and so many computers, we had to shut everything down,” a company spokesperson said this morning. “We hired IT professionals to come in and determine exactly what happened.”  You can read the full story on Buffalo Business First's website
