Friend of Mayor Byron Brown is a possible target of a federal investigation

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A long-time friend of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown may be a target of a federal investigation. The Buffalo News reported a pair of unnamed people say FBI agents recently spoke with them and were asking questions about Maurice Garner.

Garner is credited with founding Grassroots, the Democratic political organization, which gave rise to Brown.

On Monday 2 On Your Side caught up with the mayor to ask some questions about the predicament his friend may now be in.

"I certainly don’t like to see that occur with a friend," Brown said. "We will see where the investigation goes but I believe in his integrity. I believe in his honesty and hopefully this will be resolved in a positive fashion.”

Monday's alleged revelations about the federal probe appears connected to the search warrant executed at Buffalo City Hall, in the offices of the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency.

Brown told 2 On Your Side that Garner is a good friend, describing him as someone who has made major contributions to improving the city.
