SHERMAN, N.Y. — One person has been arrested after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Town of Sherman, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says 29-year-old Justin M. Gibbons, of Mayville, was shot multiple times at 1:36 a.m. at 114 West Main Street. He was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

After an investigation, the sheriff's office says Gibbons had been involved in an altercation with Julio E. Montanez near that location. They allege that Montanez fired multiple shots at Gibbons, who was attempting to flee.

Montanez has been charged with one count of manslaughter and is being held at Chautauqua County Jail, pending his arraignment.
