Savarino to build apartment complex on site of fire-damaged former warehouse

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Savarino Cos. is eying a project in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood.

The company filed documents with the City of Buffalo that focus on turning a vacant, fire-damaged former warehouse at 1 Howell St. into a 66-unit, market rate apartment complex.

The $14 million project will be reviewed in the coming months by the city’s planning board, zoning board of appeals and preservation board, and by the state under its Brownfield Cleanup program.
