Fisher-Price layoffs: ‘Is this the tip of the iceberg?’

It’s not the first time the California-based parent company has cut local jobs, and naturally, it begs the question: Are more job cuts coming?

EAST AURORA, N.Y. — Mattel’s recent announcement to move an East Aurora business line to California could have short- and long-term ripple effects on Western New York.

News broke late last month that Mattel (NASDAQ: MAT) is moving its preschool business to El Segundo, California, though Fisher-Price’s core operations and headquarters will remain in East Aurora. Some local employees have been offered roles in other areas of the company, but reports say Fisher-Price has laid off 75 to 100 workers.

A company spokesperson declined to provide more details, such as the number of employees who were offered other roles and Fisher-Price’s total staff count.
