WNY Hiking Challenge is back for 2024 season

This summer, Outside Chronicles is unveiling 46 trails and a new point system to document progress.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Outside Chronicles has announced its new trails for the upcoming 2024 Western New York Summer Hiking Challenge. The full list will be revealed on April 22. People familiar with the challenge can expect some big changes.

Organizers are overhauling how hikers track their progress. Instead of completing 20 trails, you must earn 75 points to complete the challenge.

There are 46 trails (increased from the usual 32) to choose from, with each hike worth 3, 5, 8, & 15 points. 75 points will earn you a finisher patch, but additional stickers will be given if you reach 100, 200, and 300 points.

Outside Chronicles also announced hikes will use the Eventzee App to track their progress,  earn badges, view the leaderboard, and check trail conditions.

The Hiking Challenge starts May 1, and hikers need to finish by November 15. Registration opens on April 29 with a Facebook live Kickoff event.

To take part, it costs $25 per person, $45 for pet and owner, $65 per family, and $20 for scouts.

All profits from hiker registrations will be donated to the Buffalo Audubon Society & The Western New York Land Conservancy. All profits from pet registrations will be donated to Sadie’s Safe Harbor Canine Rescue.
