Two dead following shooting in Buffalo's University Heights neighborhood

A man and a woman were shot on Merrimac Street early Friday morning.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two people are dead following an overnight shooting in Buffalo's University Heights neighborhood.

Authorities responded to the call on Merrimac Street around 2:15 a.m. Friday.

Buffalo Police say a 26-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were fatally shot in their home in the 100 block of Merrimac. The original call came in to E-District officers and first responders as a stabbing.

Both victims lived in the lower apartment and had been shot once.

It was upsetting to the Buffalo Common Council member who represents this district, and to many University at Buffalo students who live off campus and call this street home. It was upsetting to those who have long invested in this neighborhood.

At about 2:15 a.m. Friday, Buffalo Police responded to a home at 93 Merrimac Street, initially for a call of a stabbing, but once there, had found that two people had been shot and killed in the first floor of the double.

Buffalo Police returned to the scene later on Friday to canvas neighbors who have security cameras in hopes of looking at footage for clues.
