2 dead following crash in South Buffalo

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at South Park Avenue and Aldrich Place, according to a City of Buffalo spokesperson.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two people were taken to Erie County Medical Center after a Saturday morning crash that involved a motorcyclist and a pedestrian.

On Sunday, Buffalo Police said both people had died. 

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday at South Park Avenue and Aldrich Place, according to a City of Buffalo spokesperson. South District officers responded to the scene.

Buffalo police said a motorcycle was traveling southbound on South Park Avenue when it hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street. 

The motorcyclist, Joseph Sawicki, 20 of Buffalo, and the pedestrian, a 33-year-old Ryan Piazza of West Seneca, died as a result of the crash.

The pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene. The motorcyclist died later at ECMC. 

Police are investigating if speed played a factor in the incident.
