Amherst funeral director's death ruled a suicide

The Amherst Police Department says Charles Durante's death has been confirmed as a suicide.

AMHERST, N.Y. — A funeral director was found injured in the middle of North Bailey Avenue in Amherst back in November and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

At the time it was considered a suspicious death.

Now, nearly two months later, the Amherst Police Department says Charles Durante's death has been confirmed as a suicide.

Durante, 43, was a funeral director at John E. Roberts Funeral Home in Amherst and lived in an apartment above the funeral home.

The funeral home issued the following statement back in November:

“We are heartbroken by this tragic loss. Charlie was a special person to us and the community. We’re thankful for the Amherst Police Department's prompt response and are cooperating fully with their investigation. Additional questions should be directed to the Amherst Police Department.” – John E. Roberts Funeral Home
