Sloan man pleads guilty to gun possession ahead of trial

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — A Sloan man has pleaded guilty on an illegal gun possession charge and separate DWI charge in Erie County Court. 

34-year-old Timothy Murek, Jr.'s trial for illegal gun possession was set to begin, but instead he pleaded guilty to one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. 

Cheektowaga Police responded to the 2700 block of Harlem Rd. on December 26, 2021 after reports of a person with an illegal gun. Murek matched the description and was detained by CPD where a handgun was found on his waist. 

Murek faces 15 years in prison and is expected to be sentenced on June 3. 

Murek also pleaded guilty to one count of driving while intoxicated, and has two previous DWI convictions within the last 10 years. 

On September 22, 2022 Cheektowaga Police responded to a two-vehicle crash near Towers Boulevard and French Rd. Investigators determined that Murek had been driving while under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. 

Murek will be sentenced in June on the DWI charge and faces 7 years in prison.
