CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Six people were arrested and four people hospitalized following the pursuit of a stolen vehicle Tuesday night in Cheektowaga.

Five 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old were arrested. Two of the 17-year-olds were taken to Erie County Medical Center to be treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Cheektowaga Police said Thursday.

Two other people, whose vehicles were struck during the pursuit, were also taken to ECMC for non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday night.

The sequence of events began around 10 p.m. Tuesday, when Cheektowaga Police officers spotted a black Dodge Durango on Walden Avenue that was reported as stolen from the City of Buffalo. The vehicle turned onto Harlem Road.

Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop at that point, activating emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle continued south on Harlem Road.

"The officer terminated the pursuit because the vehicle continued to accelerate and was driving recklessly," police said.

The Durango drove through a red light at the intersection of Harlem Road and William Street, causing a crash that involved four other vehicles. The Durango rolled over, and all six people then fled on foot before being arrested.

Cheektowaga Police did not say what charges the six people faced in connection to Tuesday's incident.

"Stolen property was located inside of the stolen vehicle from a larceny that occurred earlier in the day. The police pursuit is under the process of supervisory review to ensure it was within policy, procedure, and the law," Cheektowaga Police said in a statement, announcing the arrests.
