Amherst man indicted in connection to fatal 2023 shooting in Allentown

Prosecutors say Nigel Flint, 28, was arrested in Detroit back in January, and then brought back to Western New York to face charges.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An Amherst man has been charged with murder for a shooting that happened last September in Allentown.

Nigel Flint, 28, is accused of killing Darnell Lynch Jr. around 4 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2023. Flint was arraigned Tuesday morning in Erie County Court and faces one felony count of murder and one violent felony count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors say Flint was arrested in Detroit back in January, and then brought back to Western New York to face charges.

Prosecutors allege that the shooting with an illegal gun happened around 4 p.m. on Sept. 16. Lynch, who was 28 years old, was declared dead at the scene.

A short time later, Buffalo Police spotted a vehicle traveling the wrong way on nearby Mariner Street.

"Officers allegedly found a loaded, illegal handgun during a search of the vehicle. The gun was submitted into evidence for further testing," the Erie County District Attorney's Office said in a statement Wednesday.

Flint was found on Jan. 29 in Michigan, where he was taken into custody on an indictment warrant. He's scheduled to appear in court at 10 a.m. on March 4 for a pre-trial conference.

Flint faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted on all charges. State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens will preside over the pre-trial conference, and Flint is being held without bail.

The Buffalo Police Department homicide squad and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force both worked on the case.
