Buffalo Police: 13-year-old girl shot and killed on early Friday

Police were called to Broadway and Moritmer just after 12:30 a.m. Friday. 2 On Your Side confirmed that the victim was 13-year-old Miracle Hunt.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Police are investigating a shooting that took the life of a young teenager. Friday night, 2 On Your Side confirmed that the victim was 13-year-old Miracle Hunt.

Police were called to Broadway and Mortimer just after 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Buffalo Police told 2 On Your Side she was not the intended target, and about an hour before, she had left a house party blocks away with friends after police told them to break it up.

"The level of gun violence and the availability of illegal weapons is just absolutely senseless," Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said.

There is no suspect description to share from police just yet, but they told 2 On Your Side that they are looking at several videos that might lead them to the killer.

Buffalo Police say they are looking into whether stolen Kias may have been involved. They did say someone shot once out of a vehicle, hitting the 13-year-old, then taking off.

Mayor Brown says investigators are looking at video captured by several cameras from before, during, and after the shooting.

"My message is to those responsible: do not be comfortable. Do not be comfortable. There is video and police will do everything that they possibly can to follow up on that," Mayor Brown said.

So far in the first week of July, there have been 10 shootings in Buffalo. Four people have died, including an 18-year-old shot at a park this week. He was also an innocent bystander.

But year-to-date from January 1 to June 30, the number of shootings in Buffalo was down 31 percent. The number of homicides during that same time period was down 55 percent.

"I'm not foolish to think that, you know, we're going to rest on our laurels, and we certainly understand that spikes are going to happen, and it's how we respond to those spikes to stop them to prevent those retaliations," Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said.

Anyone with information is asked to call or text the Confidential TIPCALL Line at (716) 847-2255.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Miracle's family pay for funeral expenses.
