BUFFALO, N.Y. — A line of thunderstorms moving in from the west southwest, with a few stronger storms possible too, mainly for the western Southern Tier. As a cold front approaches, thunderstorms and rain will continue moving to the northeast across our area Wednesday evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has part of our area under a Marginal Risk for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms this evening for much of Chautauqua County, into part of Cattaraugus County and for northern Pennsylvania counties, as well McKean and Potter counties. The main threats are expected to be damaging winds and large hail as a low risk from any of these strong storms that may move into that area, mainly between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Areas further north in WNY are in a more stable airmass and also over Lake Erie tonight, so thunderstorms are expected to weaken over those areas. More instability is over areas to the south such as the western Southern Tier especially, so we may see stronger storms there.

Stay tuned to Storm Team 2 for updates.
