AAA predicts more people traveling over the holiday weekends

AAA predicts nearly 113 million Americans will be traveling this week for the holiday weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — With Hanukkah underway and Christmas now just days away, many Western New Yorkers will be doing some travelling.

AAA predicts nearly 113 million Americans will be traveling this week for the holiday weekend.

This year's forecast is an increase of 3.6 million people over the last year, close to pre-pandemic levels.

AAA said this morning that both Christmas and New Year's Day falling on weekends will mean more people travel than other years.

And if you're planning to fly this week, AAA shared a few tips with us especially if you're bringing any gifts.

"Get to the airport early. Make sure you have time to get through security. Don't wrap gifts ahead of time, TSA might have you unwrap them. So take wrapping paper and wrap them at your destination. Pack lightly and use carry-on luggage if possible as well. If your flight gets changed or you have to be rerouted, having your luggage in hand makes that reroute so much easier," said Brian Murray, AAA Western and Central New York's director of regional travel.

If you're flying AAA also reminds you to have your airline's app installed on your phone to get up to the minute changes and they say it's the easiest way to rebook if you have to.
