AAA: Gas prices in Buffalo see slight drop

While the national average price of gas continues to drop, Buffalo saw a slight drop for the first time in weeks.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Drivers in Buffalo will see a slight decrease in gas prices for the first time in weeks. Meanwhile, the national average price per gallon continues to decrease, according to AAA.

The New York State average is down one cent from last week to $3.50, a year ago the NYS average was $2.32. The national average price of gas is $3.29, down two cents from last week.

Here in Western New York, drivers see minimal relief. The average price of gas per gallon in Buffalo dropped one cent down to $3.45 a gallon. In Batavia, the price of gas stayed at $3.46 and Rochester saw a one cent decrease down to $3.50 a gallon.

Prices across the nation dropped this past week despite an increase in demand with holiday travel, according to AAA. The price of oil is fluctuating in the $70s, however if prices go up, gas prices will follow.

AAA stated that January is typically when gas is the cheapest because of a drop in demand with winter weather.

AAA says drivers can conserve fuel by mapping their routes, avoiding peak traffic times, using cruise control when possible and combining errands into one trip.
