Sabres Face Tough Tests This Weekend

The Sabres play at Washington and Boston this weekend.

Three defenseman sat out Friday's practice at Haborcenter. Rasmus Ristolainen, Lawrence Pliut and Zach Bogosian all had maintenance days.

Defenseman Marco Scandella practiced with the team and head coach Phil Housley said he will be examined one more time Saturday morning and could return to the line up against the Caps Saturady night.

After picking up four out of six points in their last three games, against NHL bottom feeders the Sabres hit the road this weekend for games against Washington and Boston.

Before play started Friday the Sabres had 42 points, Washington 39 and Boston 38. The Sabres will hope they can carry over what they did against Arizona into the Caps game. In fact the Sabres play the defending Stanley Cup champions twice this week. Head coach Phil Housley said "its going to be a very good test. They're healthy right now, they got their full lineup so its going to be a great challenge for our guys to get ready and play in difficult circumstances in their own building not getting the match ups we want. So there's going to be a lot of responsibility especially on our young guys to face a heavy team."

The Caps are led by Alexander Ovechkin who at the start of play Friday night leads the league with 25 goals.

The Sabres game in Washington is a seven o'clcock face off. Sunday the Sabres play at Boston. The Bruins whipped the Sabres 4-0 on opening night. Its a five o'clock face Sunday in Boston.

The Sabres return home to play Florida Tuesday and host the Caps next Friday at the Key Bank Center.
