College basketball roundup: Canisius and Niagara women pick up home wins

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here's a recap of Western New York NCAA Division I basketball action from Thursday night.

NCAA Women: Canisius 68, Marist 52

Canisius was at home on Thursday night against Marist as it opened a two-game homestand.

The Golden Griffins and Red Foxes were even after one, but Canisius ran away with the lead in the second quarter. 

They would continue their offensive success into the second half and take the win 68-52 over Marist, improving to 13-10 overall and 8-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Sisi Eleko led Canisius with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and made all six of her free-throw attempts.

UP NEXT: Canisius will host Siena next on Saturday. Tip-off against the Saints is scheduled for 1 p.m.

NCAA Women: Niagara 84, Siena 70

The Niagara Purple Eagles hosted the Saints for Play4Kay/ Breast Cancer Awareness Night. 

Siena and Niagara went back and forth in the first half with the Saints being up 33-31 at the half.

The Purple Eagles scored a commanding 51 points in the second half, leading them to their seventh consecutive win as they beat Siena 84-70.

Angel Parker puts up 13 points during the win, as well as five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

UP NEXT: Niagara is set to host Marist on Saturday. Tip-off against the Red Foxes is scheduled for 2 p.m.
