College basketball roundup: Bona men defeat Fordham on the road, Bona women drop 12th straight

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here's a recap of Western New York NCAA Division I basketball action from Wednesday night:

NCAA Men's: St. Bonaventure 85, Fordham 67

The St. Bonaventure men traveled to the Bronx on Wednesday to take on Fordham. 

The Bonnies grabbed a 17-point lead at the half and went up as much as 26 points to help lead them to a 86-67 win over the Rams.

Assa Essamvous scored 23 points for the Bonnies, going 7 for 7 on all of his 3-point attempts.

The win puts Bonaventure at 15-9 overall and 6-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. 

UP NEXT: St. Bonaventure will head back home to take on Davidson. Tip-off against the Wildcats is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

NCAA Women: Duquesne 66, St. Bonaventure 50 

The St. Bonaventure women hosted the Duquesne Dukes, trying to snap a lingering losing streak.

After taking an early lead in the first, the Bonnies struggled to continue the early momentum as they fell behind by 20 points at the half.

The Dukes eventually increased their lead by 26 points to help put them over St. Bonaventure 66-50.

Nadechka Laccen led the way for the Bonnies with 12 points, two rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot.

St. Bonaventure now falls to 4-20 on the year, and 1-12 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
