College basketball roundup: Niagara women pick up big win on the road, Niagara men fall short

Here's a recap of both men's and women's Western New York NCAA Division I college basketball games on Thursday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here's a recap of both men's and women's Western New York NCAA Division I college basketball happening on Thursday night.

NCAA Women: Niagara 88, Manhattan 63

The Niagara women's basketball team was down in the Big Apple as it took on the Manhattan Jaspers.

The Purple Eagles scored 21 points or more in each quarter of the game en route to an 88-63 win over the Jaspers, pulling them into the top five of the MAAC and one place behind Manhattan.

The Jaspers were within six points at the half, but a 46-27 scoring deficit helped lift the Purple Eagles to win No. 12.

Leading the way for Niagara was Chardonnay Hartley with 24 points, going 5 for 5 on 3-pointers, and picking up four rebounds.

UP NEXT: Niagara women return home on Thursday to open up a two-game road trip. Siena is up first for the Purple Eagles, and tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NCAA Men: Iona 74, Niagara 71

The Niagara men's basketball team played at home Thursday evening against Iona, looking to extend a two-game win streak against the Gaels.

The Purple Eagles saw themselves behind by 18 points at the half, but a 50-point run in the second half brought them back within a single score with just seconds remaining on the clock.

A foul called with just four seconds left in regulation would set up Iona for its 12th win of the season.

Dre Bullock had 22 points on the night, good enough for a season-high. He also picked up eight field goals, four 3-pointers, and two free throws.

UP NEXT: Niagara men will begin a three-game road trip on Friday, February 16. Fairfield will be up first, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
