Buffalo Waterfront prepares for Total Eclipse in the 716 on Monday

“We look forward to celebrating with the community and our out-of-town guests at the first event of the new outdoor venue at Terminal B,” organizers said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Like so many other places across Western New York, the Buffalo Waterfront is planning to host local visitors and not-so-local tourists who want to celebrate the total solar eclipse.

The event, called Total Eclipse in the 716, will take place at the Outer Harbor and at Canalside.

"The waterfront lies at one of the most central points in the path of totality and, weather willing, will offer picturesque views of the solar eclipse,” Lauren Ford, general manager of Buffalo Waterfront, said in a statement.

“We look forward to celebrating with the community and our out-of-town guests at the first event of the new outdoor venue at Terminal B.”

There are some things to know about Monday's event. The Outer Harbor event at Terminal B event is free but does require a reservation for each person who attends, and those tickets can be reserved online in advance. Premium parking for $5 is also encouraged parking along Fuhrmann Boulevard is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event at Terminal B is a "free event that will feature live music, food trucks, vendors, and a Kids Zone with a DIY pinhole projector station, a chalk-art zone and more," organizers said.

After the eclipse comes and goes, there will be a Total Eclipse of the Sun Run, with fun run planned for 5 p.m. and a 5K set to start at 6 p.m. You do need to register for those events.

At Canalside, there are no reservations required. There will be a silent disco at the beer garden, both the Buffalo Heritage Carousel and Longshed will be open, and the Explore & More Children’s Museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
