Buffalo Public Schools receives donation of 50,000 solar eclipse glasses

Buffalo State University and M&T Bank donated 50,000 solar eclipse glasses to Buffalo Public Schools. Educational materials about the eclipse were also donated.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Thousands of students have reason to celebrate as the total solar eclipse approaches on April 8.

Buffalo State University and M&T Bank donated 50,000 solar eclipse glasses to Buffalo Public Schools during a Friday event. Even though school will be closed on April 8, the donation means that students and staff will still be able to safely experience the eclipse.

It's something kids said they are really excited for, and have been learning about in class.

"We've been writing essays about the solar eclipse," Ava Rodriguez, a fourth-grader at Public School 17, told 2 On Your Side.

"We're talking about the solar eclipse with my class. Our teacher is teaching us about it, and we went around this hallway looking at the pre-K (students), they did all this hard work."

The donation by Buffalo State and M&T Bank also included educational materials about the solar eclipse.
