University at Buffalo med students take expanded opportunities to heal

Medical students from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences headed inside to a homeless shelter to provide free medical care.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As temperatures dropped below freezing on a recent night, medical students from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences headed inside to a homeless shelter at Holy Cross Church.

The students are part of a medical student-run organization called UB Heals, which provide free medical care twice a week in the community, often to people who are homeless. On this particular night, they planned a foot clinic in addition to general care that included bandages, cold medication, blood pressure screenings and hepatitis injections.

Participants included both women and men of all ages, colors and backgrounds, all of whom filed into the church basement for one of the shelter's 62 beds. Read the full story on Buffalo Business First's website.
