Naval & Military Park recognizes big anniversary for one of its historic vessels

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park is commemorating a big anniversary for one of its historic vessels.

The USS Croaker was commissioned 80 years ago. The World War II submarine has been on display at the park for nearly 40 years, and on Saturday, a ceremony was held to share the history of the sub — and celebrate its 80th year.

"The Croaker had a really long, and really historic service to our country," Courtney Speckmann of the Naval & Military Park said. "It has been here at the Naval Park since 1988, and we are so proud to be able to share the story of the submarine and its World War II service, and Korean service with the public."

The Naval & Military Park is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
