Wardman Road Construction still not done

"Major scope of the work" was supposed to be done by Nov. 1

KENMORE, N.Y. — We continue to hold people in power accountable about the conditions of Wardman Rd. in the Village of Kenmore. Most of the construction was supposed to be completed by November 1, but people living there found out it's not going to happen, leaving them with a lot of concerns as we head into winter.

A month ago when we talked to Andy Kucserik, he was frustrated with his ripped-up road. He still is.

"It's actually more of a mess now because, as they do more, they push more stuff out. So, curbs are nice. That's great. That's the only thing that's different," says Kucserik.

KENMORE, N.Y. - Neighbors on Wardman Road in Kenmore are worried about school buses and emergency vehicles not being able to get down the street. Since the middle of May, Andy Kucserik and his neighbors have been dealing with a ripped-up road. "It has been pretty disastrous and relatively unsafe too.

In October, the Kenmore Superintendent of Public Works told 2 On Your Side that according to the Wardman Rd. contract, the "major scope of the work" would be done by November 1.

It isn't.

The Village gave everyone on Kucserik's street a letter this week saying the contractor needs three more weeks with additional work being done this spring.

"It's been delay, after delay, after delay, with clear dates, substantial completion work dates of today, that's now three weeks from today. I don't have a lot of confidence that three weeks from today we're going to be in any better shape. There's not a whole lot happening on the street," says Kucserik.

New curbs were put in, but that means nobody can get into their driveways. They are all having to park on other streets and walk to their homes.

“You have to walk a couple of blocks to get to your car every day. It's fun. It's enjoyable," said Kucserik. "We can't even get into driveways even if there was concrete or asphalt on the ground right now, so that's the concern is how are you going to get out if you're stuck in the snow."

Thursday, before the bad weather hit, 2 On Your Side asked Superintendent of Public Works Dave Root for more information and an interview. He didn't respond about the interview, but we got some information.

Root says the curbs are done, sidewalks will be finished next week, and crews will start working on driveway transitions next week, too.

"They're asking for our patience. I would like the contractor to hurry up a little bit more. Hire more people. Do some more work to get it done quicker," said Kucserik.

The letter also says trees will be planted and restoration work won't happen until spring.

2 On Your Side's Jackie Roberts also reported about the problems on Wardman Rd. in September.

KENMORE, N.Y. - Since May, Wardman Road in Kenmore has been undergoing a total reconstruction project. Once the work is completed, the road will have new storm, water and sewer lines, replaced curbs and sidewalks and a newly paved street.
