Volunteers spring to action, help clean up around Buffalo neighborhood

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Some people on Buffalo's East Side took advantage of the nice weather Saturday by cleaning up their neighborhoods.

Volunteers gathered along Norfolk Avenue to pick up garbage and apply primer to a building that will soon be the canvas for a community mural.

"We're taking back our space," organizer Angie Leveritte told 2 On Your Side. "Our block club was revitalized right after COVID, and we did not have a clean, safe space to walk when everyone was sheltering in their homes because of COVID. And so we established our block club right after that, because we wanted a space that was clean to be able to walk, that was mowed, to ride our bikes."

The Norfolk Avenue Block Club said they host these clean-ups twice a year — once in the spring, then in the fall.
