One person was killed and two others were hurt after Lewiston Police say the driver of a vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed.

LEWISTON, N.Y. — One person is dead and two people were injured after the driver of a vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed in Niagara County on Sunday morning.

The accident happened on Upper Mountain Road and Walmore Road in Sanborn. When police arrived they say they noticed that the car had traveled 200 feet off the road and into a wooded area. It was tipped onto its side with heavy damage.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a second passenger were both transported by Mercy Flight to ECMC where they are being treated for their injuries. All of the car's occupants were related and residents of Niagara County, according to police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the car was traveling north on Walmore Road, failed to stop at the stop sign, and continued straight through the intersection at the time of the crash.

Lewiston Police will continue to investigate the accident, and the names of those involved are being withheld while family members are notified.

Updates will be provided once they become available.
