A local WNY artist has first-ever solo art exhibit

There's 16 pieces in the exhibit. All paintings are up for sale.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There is a large volume of work finally on display.

"I'm an accidental artist. As well as an accidental entrepreneur. I never really woke up one day and was like, 'Oh I'm going to create art,'" says artist Shantelle Patton. "This opportunity here at Serendipity, I wanted to step outside the box. I said, well this time I'm going to pick up a paintbrush, put a paintbrush to canvas, and do a few different things."

Shantelle Patton is a local artist who's having her first-ever solo art exhibit.

"I'm nervously excited because this will be my first time displaying any of my artwork that I've actually used a brush."

There's a special theme for the exhibit. Shantelle is dedicating her artwork to her late father. Patton says her dad was a deejay and would call her randomly. She says he will scream a song title and then hang up. Shantelle says she knew that was her cue to paint her next piece.

If you notice, every painting is named after a hit song.

She started painting a decade ago. She says she never imagined her paintings would be on display, let alone have a solo exhibit.

The exhibit is through the Artist in Residency Program with Serendipity Labs. Her talents aren't stopping there because her work also got her a part of the 5/14 Memorial Commission team.

"It's an opportunity for me to pay homage," Patton says.

Patton's artwork will be on display for three months. All of her pieces are for sale. All proceeds go 100% to the artist. To RSVP for her free exhibit click here
