KENMORE, N.Y. — A Kenmore West High School student will head to New York City in just a few weeks to compete in a National Shakespeare Competition at the Lincoln Center.

Clare Day will be taking center stage against 44 people. She earned a spot after placing in the top 50 in the country.

Day recently told 2 On your Side what she will be performing and what people can expect to see.

"So, the monologue that I chose was one from 'Romeo and Juliet,' where I'm portraying Juliet in Act 4, Scene 3," Clare said. "Basically, the entire summary of the monologue is that it's when she is very conflicted between what she's supposed to be doing, within the fact that her cousin just got killed by Romeo, her lover, and it's just, it's a very intense scene."

Clare also said she plans on being an actress down the road, and this weekend she will be auditioning for a musical theater role at Fredonia this Saturday.
