Utility pole knocked over by stolen car in Niagara County

The woman traveling eastbound had hit both the person driving westbound and a utility pole near Bond Lake in Niagara County on Monday.

LEWISTON, N.Y. — On Monday, May 6 dispatchers at the Niagara County Sheriff's Office reported that they received a call regarding a two vehicle accident on Lower Mountain Road that had resulted in one of the cars to hit a large utility pole near the area of Bond Lake Park. 

Officers with both Niagara County and Lewiston police arrived onto the scene and confirmed that the one car had knocked over the utility pole that was attached to power lines leaning near the roadway.

An investigation following the accident had revealed that the vehicle that was traveling eastbound by the driver who was identified as Sarah Becker crossed over into the westbound lane and struck the driver coming towards her. 

After striking the westbound traveling driver Becker then hit the utility pole. EMS officials with Tri-Community checked out both of the drivers involved and reported no life threatening injuries. 

Becker did though display signs of drug impairment and was taken into custody by officers at the scene. After being evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert Becker was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. 

It was also found by investigators that the car Becker was driving had been stolen on May 5 from a house on Upper Mountain Road in the Town of Cambria. For this she was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd degree, and multiple Vehicle & Traffic violations resulting from the accident.

Until her arraignment Becker is being held at the Niagara County Correctional Facility, and will be given a court date in the Town of Wilson. 

At the time of the accident that section of Lower Mountain Road near Bond Lake was closed for a period of time to repair/replace the utility pole that was hit.
