WNY contractor accused of defrauding customers

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. — A Cattaraugus County man is accused of taking money for construction projects and never starting them. 

Dana E. John, 56, of Great Valley, is charged with Scheme to Defraud in the first degree and Grand Larceny in the second degree. 

Investigators for the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office say John was allegedly given an estimated $3.13 million dollars for multiple construction projects in Ellicottville, Mansfield and Salamanca area.  John is accused of taking money for one construction project that was never started. Police say none of the projects were completed. 

John was arraigned in Town of Ellicottville court and released on his own recognizance.  He is scheduled to appear again in court at a later date.
