Student arraigned for alleged threats made on social media during UB demonstration

The 18-year-old student who had allegedly made social media threats amid the University at Buffalo's student demonstration has been arraigned.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A University at Buffalo student who had allegedly made social media threats amid the University at Buffalo's student demonstrations has been arraigned. 

Abdul K. Badjie, 18, of Newburg, New York, was arraigned in Amherst Town Court on one count of Attempted Making a Terroristic Threat and one count of Attempted Making a Threat of Mass Harm.

Badjie had allegedly made a threatening post on May 6 to a social media platform directed towards those who were a part of the student-led demonstrations on UB's North campus, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. 

Badjie was issued an appearance ticket at the time of the alleged threat and will return to court in July for a felony hearing.

He was released on his own recognizance under the condition that he must stay off of all UB property unless there is a specific directive from the school allowing him access.

If convicted, Badjie could face up to four years in prison. 

University of Buffalo Police were lead investigators in this case.
