Police chase that started in Buffalo, ends in Town of Tonawanda; officer injured

Amherst Police say a Buffalo man is in custody after stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase, which left an Amherst officer with a hand injury.

Amherst Police say a Buffalo man is in custody after stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase, which left an Amherst officer with a hand injury, Wednesday evening.

Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo tells 2 On Your Side the pursuit started on the 198 in the City of Buffalo, but was called off by Buffalo Police as other agencies picked up the chase.

Amherst Police say patrols responded to the area of Transit Road for a report of a stolen vehicle, when authorities located the vehicle at the corner of Maple and Transit Road, the chase endured.

Stephen Gebura, of Buffalo, rammed an Amherst patrol vehicle and continued driving on Maple Road, then onto Brighton into the Town of Tonawanda when it struck another vehicle at the corner of Sheridan Drive and Delaware Avenue where the chase ended.

Gebura attempted to flee from police and did resist arrest, according to Amherst Police.

Two civilians were injured from the accident at Sheridan and Delaware and were transported to Kenmore Mercy Hospital with minor injuries.
