Man wanted in Oklahoma arrested in Cattaraugus County

The man was wanted on felony charges of child abuse, child neglect, and failure to protect a child from abuse.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office said a man who was wanted on a felony warrant in Oklahoma was taken into custody Friday afternoon.

The sheriff's office had been called to the Town of Cold Spring to check on children there. Deputies found William Eugene Bates, 30, who had been staying with a friend in Jamestown and who was wanted in Grady County, Oklahoma, southwest of Oklahoma City.

The sheriff's office said Bates was taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned and held without bail at Town of Little Valley Court, and he's scheduled to appear in Cattaraugus County Court at a later date.

Bates was wanted in Oklahoma on felony charges of child abuse, child neglect, and failure to protect a child from abuse.
