Buffalo man pleads guilty to killing father-in-law

In October of 2021 the suspect had violated an existing order of protection and unlawfully entered the home of his estranged wife in the City of Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 41-year-old Buffalo man pleaded guilty before a State Supreme Court Justice in Erie County Court for fatally injuring his estranged wife's father.

Mohammed Mia plead guilty to one count of manslaughter in the first degree, which was the full satisfaction of the indictment against himself.

In October of 2021, Erie County investigators said that Mia had violated an existing order of protection and unlawfully entered the home of his estranged wife in the City of Buffalo.

While he was inside the home Mia had slapped, punched, and choked the estranged wife while making threats. He also had assaulted her parents as they tried to intervene during the attack. The estranged wife's father was repeatedly punched and kicked after being thrown to the ground.

Mia had fled the scene in his car, meanwhile the estranged wife called 911 for her father who was unconscious. The father was taken by ambulance to ECMC with severe head trauma, and the two women were treated for cuts, bruises, and broken teeth.

Later that same day Mia had gone to the E-District police station to report that he had been attacked, but was arrested himself.

Three days after suffering from the attack the father of the estranged wife was reported to have passed away from his injuries.

Mohammed Mia will face a maximum of 25-years in prison when he returns for sentencing on June 26. Until then he will be held without bail, and orders of protection have been issued on behalf of the surviving victims.
