Buffalo man charged in connection to fatal shooting, separate stabbing hours apart

Emanuel Stokes, 28, of Buffalo is charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of assault.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An arrest was made in connection to a shooting death and then a separate stabbing that both happened on May 12 in the City of Buffalo.

Emanuel Stokes, 28, of Buffalo is charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of assault.

Buffalo Police on Wednesday said the first incident that involved Stokes happened during the early hours of Sunday, May 12. That's when Erie County Medical Center, at around 12:40 a.m., notified 911 that a shooting victim had been brought to the hospital in a private vehicle.

That person, 34-year-old Nicholas Calhoun of Buffalo, was declared dead at ECMC.

Police determined that the shooting happened near in the area of Kehr and Urban streets, northeast of MLK Park.

Hours later, around 2:30 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was stabbed on the 200 block of Mills Street, near Fillmore Avenue and Sycamore Street. The boy, who police say knew his attacker, was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital to be treated.

Buffalo Police said homicide detectives eventually linked the same suspect to both crime scenes.

A search of the New York State electric court filing system show that Stokes was arrested Tuesday and appeared in court Wednesday morning.
