$18M renovation will bring apartments to former piano key factory in Tonawanda

The first floor would serve as a construction industry incubator, and floors two through six will be converted into a one- and two-bedroom market-rate apartments.

TONAWANDA, N.Y. — A Town of Tonawanda factory that once produced more than 125,000 piano keys a year is being eyed for a mixed-use development, anchored by 55 apartments.

Plans call for the former Wood & Brooks Co. factory at 2101 Kenmore Ave., a 183,968-square-foot complex that dates back to 1911, to be renovated. The first floor would serve as a construction industry incubator, and floors two through six will be converted into a one- and two-bedroom market-rate apartments.

The project is expected to cost $18 million.
