BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man known for his passion for the City of Buffalo and Democratic Party politics is being mourned tonight.

Thomas Gleed died over the weekend after a brief illness.

Tom had worked at the Erie County Board of Elections for the past 13 years and served on the Executive Committee of the Erie County Democratic Party for many years.

Erie County Democratic Chairman Jeremy Zellner put out a statement yesterday that read in part,

"Tom was the embodiment of public service, from his long tenure at City Hall with Mayor Masiello to his tireless activism and advocacy on so many community issues and, of course, at the Board of Elections, where Tom was checking in voters and hard at work just this past Friday.

We will always remember him for his diligence, devotion, and generosity of spirit.

Tom was truly a fixture in our party, always busy but never too busy to help at headquarters, walk petitions, and join us at countless events over the years."

He was also a Board Member of the Stonewall Democrats of Western New York and proudly served as a campaign aide for then Senator Hillary Clinton.

Tom was the son of Helen and Earl Gleed of East Aurora, and a devout Catholic, who was admired and well liked by all who knew him.

Tom Gleed was 72 years old.

Funeral arrangements are not yet final.
