Hounds & Hops offering free spa treatments for all dogs adopted at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter

Everyone who adopts a dog from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter will now receive a certificate for a doggy spa treatment at the groomer inside Seneca One.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — When a dog gets adopted from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, it's a new beginning.

Now thanks to Hounds & Hops inside Seneca One, they'll get to make the best impression possible.

"Every dog that gets adopted here on out from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, you'll get a green ticket in your adoption packet which you can come and redeem it for a free spa day," Hounds & Hops Co-Founder Jarod Miller said. "So what that includes is not only a full bath, but it is a spa treatment, hot oil treatment, nail trim, all those things that not only help the health of your new dog, but also makes them very happy too, and very relaxed."

Volunteer Lorraine Maxwell says every little bit helps to drive adoptions.

"It's just great to have a partner like this, and we have many in the community that just share our name, share where we're located, share the dogs that are at the shelter, and gives the adopters that adopt at the shelter somewhere to bring their dog to get groomed," she told 2 On Your Side.

The program grew out of an ongoing partnership between Hounds & Hops and the shelter, who team up once a week for a dog meet and greet called the Seneca Star program.

"We started about 15 weeks ago, and once a week we bring a dog from the shelter, give them a spa treatment and then we invite everyone to come for Yappy Hour from 4-7 p.m. every single Wednesday," Miller said. "We've honestly been 15 for 15 since we started, and dogs through our Seneca Star program they might spend weeks, months at the shelter. We've adopted dogs out within 24 hours, within 24 minutes, and one dog in particular within 24 seconds."

It all shows the importance of always putting your best paw forward.

"That little extra TLC and that little extra care, not only for people's dogs at home, but especially for dogs that are finding their new homes, it just gives them a good start," Miller said. "We call it the welcome home spa package, because you're welcoming them home and what better way to start your new life than with a great bath, and a very relaxing spa treatment."
