Buffalo Marathon 5K runners dash through downtown streets

Brendan Wagler of Rochester was the first person to cross the finish line, running 3.1 miles in 16 minutes, 58 seconds.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — First came the fireworks and the welcome party Friday night, kicking off the Buffalo Marathon weekend.

Then came the 5K on Saturday morning, when over 1,100 people ran through the downtown Buffalo streets.

Brendan Wagler of Rochester was the first person to cross the finish line, running 3.1 miles in 16 minutes, 58 seconds. He was followed by Matt Dipretore (17:05) of Newtown Square, Pa., and Sullivan Cook (17:21) of Hamburg.

The first woman to complete the course was Jaimee Walling of Boston, who finished in 19:02. She was followed by Syd Steger (19:25) of Lake Placid and C.C. Tellez (20:17) of Cochabamba, Bolivia.
