College basketball roundup: Canisius women, St. Bona men win; Niagara men come up short

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here is a recap of local Division I NCAA college basketball action from Thursday.

NCAA Women: Canisius 58, Manhattan 55

The Canisius women looking to extend their post-season run on Thursday as they took on the Manhattan Jaspers in the quarter-final of the MAAC Championship.

Canisius led at the end of the first, but the Jaspers rallied back to tie things up  23 a piece.

The Golden Griffins would then outscore Manhattan by three points in the second half, giving them the 58-55 win.

Sisi Eleko had a dominant performance for the Griffs, leading with 24 points and adding 11 rebounds and three assists.

UP NEXT: Canisius will face Fairfield in the semifinals on Friday. Tip-off against the Stags is scheduled for 11 a.m.

NCAA Men: St. Bonaventure 75, Loyola Chicago 74

After coming off a two-point win on Wednesday, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies men's basketball team found itself neck and neck with their opponent once again.

The Bonnies were able to shut down second-seeded Loyola Chicago in double overtime, winning by a final of 75-74.

Trailing by nine at the half, St. Bonaventure tied things up late in regulation and send the game to overtime.

One overtime wasn't enough though, as things were still tied at 65 at the end of the first overtime quarter.

Daryl Banks III would make all three free-throw attempts in the final 12 seconds to secure the victory.

He scored 22 points and two assists leading the Bonnies in scoring.

UP NEXT: St. Bonaventure will play next on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The opponent has yet to be determined.

NCAA Men: Marist 65, Niagara 59

The Niagara men's basketball season came to an end on Thursday as Marist was able to come back and advance to the MAAC Championship Quarterfinals.

The Purple Eagles led the entire game up until the halfway mark of the second.

Marist would then slowly increase their lead, creating a six-point gap in their 65-59 win over Niagara.

Kwane Marble led with 15 points and added one assist to his tally.
