College basketball roundup: UB women fall, St. Bonaventure men get win

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo women's basketball team at home on Wednesday night for their Mid-American Conference opener of the season against Kent State.

The Bulls struggled early on, as they only managed to put up 20 points in the first half. 

They quickly turned things around in the second half though, putting up 44 points to bring them back within contention. 

Buffalo fell just short though as the Flashes came away with a 73-64 win over UB, and improved to 1-0 in the conference.

Chelia Watson scored 31 points for the Bulls, a new personal best for the senior. She also had two rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Also helping on the offense for UB was Guard Alexis Davis who scored 13 points on the night.

Buffalo will begin a two-game road trip as they travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to face the Central Michigan Chippewas. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm. on Saturday.

ST. BONAVENTURE

St. Bonaventure men's basketball team was in Richmond this week for a two-game road trip. The Bonnies faced VCU for their first A-10 conference matchup of the season. 

It was all St. Bonaventure, as they started the game with five points off the bat. Gradually increasing their lead, the Bonnies had a 44-36 lead at the half.

Then in the second, St. Bonaventure found itself up by 19 points halfway through the half. The lead put them in a position for victory, as it beat the Rams 89-78 and improved to 1-0 in the A-10 conference.

Chad Venning led the way for the Bonnies with 19 points, followed by Charles Pride with 17. 

Venning picked up 11 rebounds and two assists in the win, as well as earning a 60-percent free-throw percentage, going 3-5.
