Canisius and Niagara women pick up wins on the road

The Golden Griffins and Purple Eagles each earned victories on the road Thursday evening.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius women's basketball team opened up a two-game road trip on Thursday against the Iona Gaels.

The Griffins were all over the ball defensively, as they outweighed Iona in that category 31-26. Down after one-quarter of play, the Golden Griffins reclaimed the lead and used a 15-point gap to help lift them over the Gaels 53-43.

Sisi Eleko led the way for the Golden Griffins with 13 points, the only member to earn double digits on the night. Eleko finished with 17 rebounds, one assist, and went 6 of 12 on field goal attempts. 

UP NEXT: Canisius will wrap up their road trip at Fairfield as they take on the Stags on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY

Niagara on the road at Rider as they begin a two-game road trip with their first tilt against the Broncs.

With a 25-point lead before the buzzer sounded at halftime, Niagara used the momentum carried throughout the first half into the second half to easily cruise by Rider 81-62.

Saige Glover was the leading scorer for Niagara, putting up 13 points. She snatched nine rebounds and went 6 of 10 on field goal attempts. 

Destiny Strother and Ary Hicks each had 12 points, and Amelia Strong had 11 to lead the Purple Eagles to the win.

UP NEXT: Niagara finishes up their road trip at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. against the Mountaineers.
