Bills come back late in fourth quarter; Patriots slip away victorious with last-second touchdown

A late Patriots touchdown gave New England their second win of the season.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — With just 12 seconds left in the game, Buffalo found themselves in desperation mode. Unfortunately though for the Bills, they just couldn't hang on in Foxborough. Buffalo falls to 4-3 on the year, with a final of 29-25 in favor of New England.

The momentum was on the Bill's side late in the second half, but not for long. New England charges down the field and with the help of a handful of penalty calls against the Bills, Mike Gesiki gives New England the lead once again after a pass from the one finds the receiver in the back of the end zone.

On the Patriot's eighth drive of the day, a fumble would put the Bills in a position to take the lead. Thanks to Jordan Poyer, he was able to set up the Bills and Josh Allen for a rush-touchdown from the one-yard line. Buffalo takes the lead 25-22.

With 7:36 remaining in regulation, Buffalo runs it down the field in roughly two minutes to set up Diggs for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

The Patriots would take advantage of an illegal contact penalty called on Taron Johnson, setting up Kendrick Bourne for a four-yard touchdown giving New England a 22-10 lead.

The Bills carried their sixth drive into the fourth quarter but would run out of downs quickly, turning it back over to New England.

The Patriots' next drive started strong, with three first downs in four plays, but the Bills defense put pressure on Jones and took him down for a loss of four yards. This ended the Patriot's offensive drive as they kicked a 49-yarder to close out the scoring in the third.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen led a 10-play 81-yard scoring drive to open the second half, hitting running back James Cook on an eight-yard touchdown pass,  trimming New England's lead to 13-10.

The Bills first-half offensive performance continued a disturbing trend.  They've now scored a combined ten points in the first halves of each of the last three games, including a 25-20 loss to Jacksonville in London two weeks ago, and a 14-9 home win over the Giants last Sunday night.

The Bills had a chance to cut into the lead late in the second quarter, but Tyler Bass missed a 42-yard field goal wide right.

Buffalo fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter.   After giving up an initial field goal, Allen was intercepted by New England's Jabrill Peppers on his first throw of the game on a pass intended for tight end Dawson Knox.

New England was able to cap a 45-yard scoring drive with a 2-yard run from Ezekiel Elliott.
