BALTIMORE — The body of a fifth missing construction worker was recovered Wednesday from the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. Salvage teams with Unified Command identified the worker as 49-year-old Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez of Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Workers with the salvage operation located one of the missing construction vehicles and contacted the Maryland State Police, who came to the collapse site with officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and the FBI.
Gonzalez's body was recovered from inside a red truck, Unified Command reported.
“We remain dedicated to the ongoing recovery operations while knowing behind each person lost in this tragedy lies a loving family,” said MSP Superintendent Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr. “Along with our local, state and federal partners, we ask that everyone extend their deepest sympathies and support to the families during this difficult time.”
It's been five weeks since Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed under the impact of a wayward cargo ship. Crews are using the largest crane on the Eastern Seaboard to haul the wreckage to a nearby salvage yard.
Crews are still working to recover the body of the sixth construction worker who plunged to his death on March 26.
