ALBANY, NY - Governor Cuomo is asking the federal government to renew a policy that allows food stamp recipients to use their benefits at local farmers markets.
Cuomo says the government notified the state that, because of a technology change, SNAP recipients would no longer be able to use their benefits.
Without the benefits, low income households could lose access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and other locally produced items - and it could hurt local farmers.
There was no immediate response from the Department of Agriculture.
