Erie County tallying absentee ballots

Thousands of votes are being counted Tuesday in race for the 27th Congressional District.

ERIE COUNTY-- Tuesday morning marks the beginning of the end when it comes to the race for New York's 27th Congressional District.

According to the Erie County Board of Elections, 5,588 absentee ballots will be counted on Tuesday.

Heading into the day, Collins' lead is around 2,200 votes.

Counting begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Board of Elections office, and it will be open to anyone who wants to come see the process for themselves.

Erie County expects to post updates on the vote counts to their website by the end of Tuesday afternoon.

Erie County says it also has 1,454 affidavit ballots to count on Wednesday.
