Early voting underway in NYS; Here's what you need to know

Voters in New York can head to the polls for early voting from October 28-November 5.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Early voting in New York state is currently underway for the upcoming election.

Voters will head to the polls across New York State to vote in the General Election. While there are hundreds of races across the eight counties of Western New York, the ones gaining the most attention from the public this year are the race for Erie County Executive, Niagara Falls Mayor and Lockport Mayor.

Important Election Dates:

  • Early Voting in New York State begins on Saturday, October 28 and runs through Sunday, November 5.
  • Polls are open on Election Day, November 7 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.;

You can go to any polling place in the county where you live for early voting, On election day you're assigned a specific polling place.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James announced there will be a hotline set up to help voters deal with any issues or concerns that may arise during early voting.

“Free and fair elections are integral to the foundation of our democracy,” said Attorney General James. “My office will always defend New Yorkers’ right to vote, and I will ensure every voter is able to cast their ballot free from fear or intimidation. Our election protection hotline is here to help voters address challenges and provide helpful guidance, whether they’re voting absentee, during early voting, or on Election Day.”

Voters that experience problems can report issues to the Attorney General's office by calling the new hotline number at (866) 390-2992, submitting complaints online, or emailing election.hotline@ag.ny.gov. There is also a guide available to address frequently asked questions.
